For decades, in the field of behavioral and cognitive sciences, efforts have been made to define models that allow the profiling and representation of people’s personalities, deep motivations and values in rational everyday behavior.
In 2015 Hans-Georg Häusel published a study, “Persönlichkeitsmodelle auf dem Prüfstand der
Hirnforschung und des Limbic® Ansatzes.” with which he reviews the available models among which he inserts his own model called “Limbic map”. This system is defined by him as multiscientific because it is the result of the combination of different scientific disciplines in a general model:
- Biology and Genetics: DRD4-Gen
- Neurochemistry: Dopamine
- Neuroatonomy: Mesolimbic System and Mesocortical System
- Psychiatry: Manias
- Motivational psychology: Berlyne, sensation seeking, novelty seeking, diversiv curiosity
- Personality psychology: openness and extroversion in the NEO 5 model
- Philosophy: Heidegger’s Boredom, Kierkegaard’s Aesthetic Life
The Limbic Map designed by Hausel is based on the opposition of 4 poles distributed on 2 orthogonal axes, of which the opposition of the poles represents the incompatibility of the opposite aspects of the personality
- Stimulation / Balance
- Domination / Harmony

In the representation of man’s emotional and motivational space, the Harmony pole is joined to that of the Equilibrium, generating a triad of poles that divide a circular space into three.
